Mileage records as reported by railroads for the movement of each car managed by RAS will be obtained through data interchange with Railinc. Capturing these mileage records will allow RAS to perform a reconciliation of reported mileage earnings credits versus amounts actually paid by the railroads. For those cars that are assigned to car hire agreements, the amount of off-line time and mileage will be audited as well.
Using this historical database of mileage and movement records, we are able to evaluate life cycles of individual components (i.e. number of miles traveled before wheels or roller bearings are replaced) which will help to determine the timing and need of predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
